Experts Meeting on Traumatic Fistula From September 6-8, 2005, EngenderHealth/the ACQUIRE Project, in partnership with the Addis Ababa Fistula Hospital, the Ethiopian Society of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, and Synergie des Femmes pour les Victimes des Violences Sexuelles (SFVS), held a first-ever meeting on traumatic gynecologic fistula in conflict settings. Experts from 11 African countries gathered in Addis Ababa to create a shared base of knowledge, discuss best practices, and create a collegial network of professionals throughout Africa working on traumatic fistula at the clinical, psychological, social, and legal levels. The meeting resulted in a set of recommendations that will feed into a comprehensive strategy to address the gaps in traumatic fistula service provision. In preparation for the meeting, ACQUIRE compiled a literature review on traumatic fistula. (Click here to read the literature review [PDF, 198 KB]).
