Family Planning–Integrated HIV Services: A Framework for Integrating Family Planning and Antiretroviral Therapy Services
This document was developed for two main purposes: a) to stimulate critical thinking regarding programmatic gaps related to the reproductive health needs of women and couples living with HIV and b) to assist community and facility-based HIV care and treatment providers and supervisors in tailoring services to reflect the family planning needs of the users and communities they serve. Based on demand from the field, this document was developed to look systematically at service delivery consideration to achieve integration. The ACQUIRE Project has field-tested portions of this document among program colleagues interested in integration in Bolivia, Ghana, and Uganda. (2007)

Contraception for Women and Couples with HIV (an ACQUIRE-FHI collaboration, led by FHI)
These materials contain guidance for providers who offer contraception to clients with HIV, including those on antiretroviral (ARV) therapy. The information can be used in a variety of health care settings by providers who regularly offer family planning services and by those who want to begin integrating contraceptive services with HIV treatment and care services. The materials provide specific information about contraceptives for clients with HIV, possible interactions between contraceptives and ARVs, decisions clients with HIV may have to make, and advice about how to counsel them. Recommendations are compiled from a number of sources, including the Medical Eligibility Criteria for Contraceptive Use, a summary consensus of expert opinion published by the World Health Organization (WHO). Postpartum Intrauterine Device: A Training Course for Service Providers
This curriculum is a clinical course designed to train doctors who will perform postpartum IUD (PPIUD) insertions at their home institutions. This course emphasizes the information needed to provide safe and effective PPIUD services and provides for extensive practice time. It assumes that the participants will bring skills, knowledge, and self-motivation to the training. The curriculum has been designed to be used by trainers who are skilled, experienced PPIUD providers and who have previously conducted skills training. While this curriculum contains information to guide the training during a workshop and to assist the trainer in making decisions that will enhance the learning experience, it is assumed that the trainer understands adult learning concepts, is familiar with a variety of training methodologies and approaches, and knows how to adapt the materials to meet the participants’ needs. Family Planning–Integrated Antiretroviral Therapy: A Curriculum
As HIV prevention, care, and treatment services increase people’s access to antiretroviral therapy (ART), many more persons living with HIV (PLHIV) are living longer, higher quality lives. As a result, the unmet need for family planning (FP) and reproductive health (RH) services among people living with HIV is growing, yet until recently, these needs have largely been overlooked. Health personnel often lack the knowledge and skills needed to help men and women to make free and informed decisions regarding their reproductive and contraceptive options, and they may be less equipped to support women receiving ART. This curriculum presents a systems approach to integrating FP services with HIV care and treatment services. It examines levels of integration of FP into HIV services, and prepares facility-based and community outreach service-delivery cadres to offer integrated FP-HIV services.
