Stories from the Field
The stories that follow are stories of courage, inspiration, and empowerment that reflect both the personal and the programmatic accomplishments achieved during the course of the ACQUIRE Project. We invite you to read about the 16-year-old girl who challenged tradition by delaying her marriage so she could pursue an education. The mother of three who ventured beyond the walls of her home to become a peer educator and cherished community resource. The health provider who confronted his colleagues’ biases and misperceptions and created a positive change so that people living with HIV could discuss their fertility desires and seek family planning services without fear. We hope that these stories will inspire others to begin new efforts to improve the reproductive health of their communities. (2008)
