ACQUIRING KNOWLEDGE: Programming for IUD Services, Experience and Lessons Learned in Field Implementation and Global Leadership
ACQUIRE implemented a range of innovative, evidence-based technical assistance activities to help increase accurate knowledge of the IUD and expand the IUD’s availability, the quality of IUD services, and access to and use of the IUD in 10 countries in Africa, Asia, and Latin America. This brief draws upon the experience of the ACQUIRE Project in providing field-based technical assistance and global leadership for the IUD. It presents ACQUIRE’s conceptual model for IUD service provision, programming approaches that follow from this model, illustrative IUD-related activities, the challenges met, and the lessons learned or reinforced that are relevant to planning and programming for expanded services for the IUD and other clinical methods.
